"Battle of Mobile Bay" Commemorative Day
Dauphin Island; Aug. 2
Cannon salute at 9:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., followed by oral
account of the battle. Also, blacksmith demonstrations in the fort's
original blacksmith shop and a performance by Ross Moore, "Southern
Son," who will perform music from his CDs.
DeKalb County Fiddler's Convention
Fort Payne; Aug. 2
Come visit us for our 100th Birthday Bash! Founded in 1908, this
daylong event features over 10 categories in which contestants can
register to participate. It will include old-time fiddling, sacred harp
music, banjos, bluegrass and much more. For more information about

Ardmore Rodeo
Ardmore; Aug. 8-9
One of the best rodeos in North Alabama, featuring bareback riding,
bull riding, steer wrestling and much more. Something for everyone.

Thunder on the Gulf
Orange Beach; Aug. 14-17
NASCAR meets H2O. Powerboats travel along a race course at speeds
exceeding 100 MPH fighting to be first over the finish line. Come and
see high-powered machines running at these speeds with no breaks!
Franklin County Watermelon Festival
Russellville; Aug. 15-16
Arts, crafts, 5k run, bike ride, golf, tennis tournament, antique car
and truck show, beauty pageant music, games, food and watermelon
contest.
Buckmasters Expo
Montgomery; Aug. 15-17
The Buckmasters Expo, a unique three-day event, provides consumers with
hundreds of exhibitor booths and displays of various hunting products;
the Buckmasters Top Bow Indoor world championship archery tournament;
the Young Bucks Outdoors kids activity center; a hunter safety class;
antler scoring; raffles; and a free members-only concert.
4th Annual Stokin' the Fire BBQ & Music Festival
Birmingham; Aug. 22-23
At the cornerstone of the two-day event is a world-class BBQ
competition, sanctioned by the prestigious Kansas City Barbeque
Society. The competition will pit up to 54 professional BBQers from
around the country against each other for $20,000 in cash and prizes.
At the same time, as many as 50 local amateur BBQ teams will compete
for the braggin' rights to the best Q in Birmingham.
The festival has something for everyone! In addition to the BBQ battles, visitors can enjoy all day headliner music at the Stokin' stage, purchase BBQ from nationally acclaimed BBQ vendors, and enjoy global grilling demonstrations by chefs from some of Birmingham's best restaurants. Kids will also have plenty of rib ticklin' fun in the new and improved kids zone, with a variety of free activities and entertainment under the water tower stage.
Black Belt Folk Roots Festival
Eutaw; Aug. 23-24
Handmade quilts, baskets and crafts with blues on Saturday and gospel
on Sunday. Downhome cooking, soul food, fish, homemade ice cream.
Children's tent with dancing, drumming, storytelling, face painting.
Okra Festival
Burkville; Aug. 30
Vendors offer food, fresh vegetables (okra), arts and crafts, and more.
Come join us for a taste of fresh homegrown okra and jazz music during
this annual community event.
Arts in the Park (1st Monday Arts Sunday)
Scottsboro; Aug. 31
More than 150 artists and craftsmen from all over the Southeast and
Southwest participate in a juried show and offer their artworks and
crafts for sale. Children's activities and musical entertainment
available. A variety of food and beverages will be offered.
