Applicants eligible for RBEG funds are public bodies and private nonprofit corporations, such as States, counties, cities, townships, and incorporated towns and villages, boroughs, authorities, districts and Indian tribes on Federal and State reservations which will serve rural areas. "Rural area" for this program is defined as a city, town, or unincorporated area that has a population of 50,000 inhabitants or less, other than an urbanized area immediately adjacent to a city, town, or unincorporated area that has a population in excess of 50,000 inhabitants. Applications will only be accepted from eligible entities. Applications will not be considered for funding if they do not provide sufficient information to determine eligibility or are missing required elements. Applications must be submitted in paper format to the USDA Rural Development State Office where the project is located. Applications may not be submitted by electronic mail. All applicants must have a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number which can be obtained at no cost via a toll-free request line at 1-866- 705-5711.
