Fairhope Places Moratorium on New Subdivisions
The City of Fairhope has placed a moratorium on all new subdivisions while the council finishes their Comprehensive Plan. Also passed in the Legislature this past session was a bill to allow Baldwin County to assess Impact Fees on all new buildings at time of sale. Fairhope has hired a consulting firm who will help them through this process of assessing cost of services and substantiating the need for the fee. The fee is to help fund governmental services, i.e. Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation and roads. It will not fund man power but infrastructure and equipement. They are also looking at a Stormwater Utility Fee that will be assessed on everyone's water bill for a nominal fee. Stormwater continues to be a tremendous problem in Fairhope with 65 inches of rain a year . . baring any Hurricanes. The moratorium should be lifted in January of 07.
