Wildlife Without Borders. This grant program, administered by the Service’s International Affairs Program, focuses on providing funds to Latin America and the Caribbean Program for projects related to fish, wildlife or their habitat. http://www.fws.gov/international/rfps/lachow.htm
Fish and Wildlife Service Coastal Program. This program is designed to help support the 22 high-priority coastal ecosystems throughout the country. Projects directly related to the priorities of those individual programs are encouraged. Programs in the Southeast are located in the following areas: Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, NC; Caribbean; Florida Gulf Coast; South Carolina Coast, South Florida Everglades. National Wildlife Refuge Friends Group Grant Program. Full Proposal Due. The NFWF has issued a call for proposals for projects that assist organizations become effective co-stewards of important natural resources within the National Wildlife Refuge System. This grant opportunity provides funding for three major areas of emphasis: (1) startup grants, to assist in starting a Refuge Friends Group; (2) capacity building grants, or that is, funds to help strengthen an existing Friends Group’s outreach efforts; planning efforts; membership development; leadership development; training development; and, (3) project specific grants (funds provided for developing conservation education, outreach, habitat restoration projects, observation towers, boardwalks on NWRs). These partnership grants are for those interested in working jointly with NOAA on habitat restoration projects that will benefit marine resources. Partnership grants range from $200K - $600K. Army Environmental Center Natural Resources Program Assistance Announcement. These grants may be used for technical assistance, such as the development of endangered species management plans on bases or for specific environmental conferences. Merck Family Fund. May be of interest to partners in Southern Appalachian, Lower Tennessee Cumberland, and Savannah Santee Pee Dee Ecosystem Teams. This Foundation has identified “Protecting the Natural Environment” as one of its priorities. Under it, “Protecting and Restoring Vital Eastern Ecosystems.” Ecosystem grants are currently restricted to the following areas:
- Southern Appalachian spruce fir and hardwood forests of TN, NC, KY, SC, GA and VA; and,
- Southeastern coastal forests and wetlands of SC.
- Northern Forest of VT, NH and ME

Bikes Belong Coalition. Will accept applications from entities that support biking. Grants are for up to $10K and must meet criteria. Grants may be for construction of bike trails, education and capacity projects. Contact: http://bikesbelong.org
Town Creek Foundation. Four major areas of interest (taken from their web site): “preserving the richness of natural heritage with a focus on federal public lands; protecting estuaries and coastal bays of the mid-Atlantic; modifying patterns of consumption and degradation of natural resources; and strengthening outreach of environmental organizations.” To inquire, send a letter of inquiry and follow guidelines on website carefully. Project Learning Tree. Small grants, called “GreenWorks Grants,” are available for action-oriented projects involving students. Grants range from $500 to $1,000 and are to support the teachers’ needs. Grants funds may not be used for salary, but they can be used to conduct projects such as creating a butterfly garden, outdoor classroom, or a stream cleanup project. Patagonia Environmental Grants. Focus is on addressing the root causes of problems and public involvement. Small grants ranging from $3 – 8K. This private foundation supports grants related to the environment in four major focus areas: Biological Diversity and the Human Communities that Depend on It; (2) Realigning Human and Natural Systems; (3) Transportation and Urban/Suburban Land Use; and (4) Energy. They do not fund individuals, academic research, hazardous waste or environmental education. The emphasis is to support projects that will help attain environmentally sound and more efficient and equitable use of land and natural resources. http://www.surdna.org/

This is a website that has lots of interesting information for those interested in ornithology, including listings of upcoming professional meetings, grants, ornithological links, research awards and some limited internships. A major goal of this Smithsonian Institution website is to link researchers, managers, public policy people, private groups interested in birding. Jane’s Trust. This is a relatively new foundation that focuses on providing grants in four areas: arts and culture; education; environment; and health/welfare. Their overall emphasis is reaching underserved populations or disadvantaged communities. They offer grants ranging from $50K - $100K in FLA and MISS. Application is a two part process: submitting a concept paper; if invited, submitting a full proposal. Concept papers are due Jan. 10 and Aug. 15 of each year.
