Oneonta Continued
We also had two of the crepe myrtles blown down. A local landscaper volunteered to plant new ones in addition to two new ones in circles at our library where two trees had died. The students planted lariope grass around those at the library.
At our request, the city built a low wall around the park sign, filled it with soil, and we planted bushes in it.
We encouraged local clubs to get involved in beautifying Oneonta with the following results:
- Rose Garden Club replanted an abandoned area at the Avenue of Flags on Hwy. 75
- Amaryllis Garden Club landscaped around the HS Stadium sign
- Agigaue and Variosa Clubs planted flowers in the new planters in front of our swimming pool
- A local artist painted a mural on the swimming pool wall
- The city, with the help of the Agigaue Club, planted bushes in front of the fenced area in front of the pool
We asked if the local Boy Scouts could take on an empty area in front of the police station. They planted flowers and bushes there and are maintaining it
Every month the Beautification Board gives a business and a residential award. Photos of the winning sites are printed in the local newspaper and also put on local access TV
We have helped to get abandoned signs torn down and some overgrown lots cleaned up.
Lots of downtown stores have put planters out in front of their stores.
Come see us during our Covered Bridge Festival Saturday October 28th.
