What Is AmeriCorps Week?

Each year during AmeriCorps Week, we recognize the commitment of AmeriCorps members and alums by highlighting the extraordinary impact AmeriCorps makes across our nation every day.
AmeriCorps Week is an opportunity for AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners and friends to demonstrate AmeriCorps’ impact on critical issues, bring more Americans into service, and thank the community partners who make AmeriCorps possible. AmeriCorps Week shines a spotlight on AmeriCorps’ impact in communities across the country in order to motivate more Americans to join AmeriCorps or volunteer in their communities. There has never been a better time to share the AmeriCorps story!
AmeriCorps Week Will Take Place March 9-17, 2013.
The two main goals for AmeriCorps Week 2013 will include:
1. Connect AmeriCorps members and alums with each other so they feel they are a part of a nationwide effort.
2. Communicate AmeriCorps’ powerful impact on critical problems and on the lives of its members and alums.
The theme of AmeriCorps Week 2013, AmeriCorps Works, communicates the value and effectiveness of AmeriCorps while providing flexibility to be used in many different contexts. It provides an overarching framework to communicate AmeriCorps triple bottom line return on investment — for the recipients of service, the people who serve, and the larger community and nation.
Everyday across the nation AmeriCorps members are tackling America’s toughest problems in:
*Disaster Services, Economic Opportunity, Education, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures, Veterans and Military Families
What Can You Do during AmeriCorps Week?
You are encouraged to use your creativity to mark the week of AmeriCorps in any way you see fit. For example, members and alumni could conduct a roundtable with community influentials. Grantees could stage an open house, service project, or volunteer fair. Members and programs can spread the work about the power of service by writing letter to the editor, blogging about AmeriCorps service, or inviting local officials and leaders to serve as honorary AmeriCorps members for a day.
